With WO installed, winword.exe (2007) remains in memory after Word is closed. This has had some weird side effects, but even aside from those, this is a drag on memory and performance.
I referred to this issue in passing in another thread, but it was rather buried. I have now also had time to do very basic troubleshooting. I uninstalled WO, and Word now closes normally.
Anyone else having this problem?
HI CritStock, would you try this:
1. First, close all current Word running instances;
2. Get Writing Outliner installed;
3. Start Word and close Word without doing further anything. (that means you see the Welcome pane of Writing Outliner only).

Should I assume that no one else has experienced this issue? I continue to have it, unfortunately. It would only be a nuisance, if it weren't for the fact that the persistence of winword in memory leads to strange i/o behavior, such as the failure of the Enter key to work, etc.

Unfortunately, this problem is still with me in the latest release version (trial). But judging by this topic, no one else is having it!
I regret it a lot, because WO is developing into an amazingly powerful tool. Great work, Edwin!
I will probably have to write a batch file to kill Word at the task level to keep using WO until this gets fixed.

A miracle has occurred. All of a sudden, winword.exe no longer lingers on when Word is closed. I haven't changed *anything* on my several computers, except MS updates, but suddenly the problem has gone away! Perhaps one of those MS updates fixed some little glitch that was causing the problem. In any case, this is cause for celebration!
