I want to make substantial changes the structure of my project, so would like to keep the current version just in case I need to revert to it. How do I keep the current version and make a renamed copy of it to use as the basis for the new version?

Hi Peter,
What a coincidence, I'm implementing the 'Save Project As' function for the upcoming new release that also includes the new corkboard feature.
With the current version, you have two options:
A. save a copy of the Writing Outliner project file (with extension .woprj) on your disk, then start the editing.
B. use the built-in versioning feature of Writing Outliner:
b1. click the 'Menu' button;
b2. click 'backup and versioning' - > 'save a new version'.
b3. Start the new editing.Hope it helps.
