I would like to have an option to switch off the information panel you get when you go over an item (with the mouse pointer) in the outliner. Sometimes this panel appears when I am typing in the document. It's starting to annoy me.

And do you have some information on the development of the update?

Add a top panel with retractable customizable tabs.
The panel should be positioned in another between the two side panels.
The cards should be similar to the "Project Notes" of the left side panel.
The cards should be personalized so that each professional sector can label them as necessary.

For example, for writers of novels:
Tab Characters
Tab Environment
Tab Data Elements
Tab Card etc. ...

The top panel should be concealed in the service of all the files included in the project so that if we want to find information just open a panel and find everything under the eyes without having to scroll through hundreds of files to retrieve information and then just click the new and clear the panel as if it were not.

I hope to be able to explain.

Hello Edwin,

Can I also ask you to make it compatible with the upcoming word-add-in of Citavi? Citavi is the market leader in Germany after all and also available in English by the way.

That would be great, as I'm not sure whether I could use your fine piece of software when it is usable in conjunction with Citavi.

Hello Edwin,
thanks for reply.
Your suggestion I apply it, but it's fine for a single change.
I meant to facilitate the entire work of editing the entire document and find myself drawn individual documents updated.
It would have been a real force to implement this feature, both for writers and publishers.
Edwin Good job and thanks again.

Hi J.J.

Sorry, I missed the email that notified this forum post...

Unfortunately, it seems not possible to reliably sync the edits in the compiled output back to the original individual documents..

How about a Compromised approach:

Allow in the compiled document to select some words and execute a menu command called 'find occurrences of these words in the original documents'?

Marge Compile Draft

Hello Admin, I just finished writing my second novel. I was fine with WO.

One difficulty I encountered was when I filled in all the individual files to obtain the final single file to be submitted to the publisher.
The corrections I made to the text of the final file submitted to the editor that I have not been made automatically in individual files.
So any correction that I made I had to re-open the file FILLED individual source file and proceed to make the same correction that I made in the file COMPLETED.
This caused me work that I could have avoided if he had updated automatically WO individual source file.
I would suggest if you can make sure that the compiled file to remain connected with the individual files that are generated.

What is corrected in the compiled file is correct also in the individual
file.

Thank you. J.J.

Most of my work starts as rather large outlines in Word or OneNote and is the baseline from which I procede with a project.
Was just hoping to find a way to encorporated the outline into the program without all the rewriting.

At this time I beleive I must forego Writing Outliner as it will not provide a significant savings in time and envolves just as much work.

I am working with the trial versions of Writing Outliner and Scrivener and hoping to make a choice soon.
While all of my saved work is in Word or OneNote format I am not certain how much of an advantage it is to work withing the Word program with writing Outliner.

I have finally managed to uninstall Writing Outliner manually using Revo Uninstaller, but it's something I shouldn't have needed to do. Word was completely unusable thanks to constant error pop up messages. These only showed after I closed my first trial of the add on which had worked perfectly. Even if the bugs were fixed, I wouldn't be trying this add-on again in a hurry.

I thought I'd try out the demo version of Writing Outliner, the latest version 1.5.20.790. Opened it up and it worked okay, but I just didn't think it was for me - that's what a trial version is for, right? - so I closed it and went to uninstall. Problem is, I can't. I've been through the uninstall option in the Start Menu and in Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and a window will pop up, I can see the tab in my explorer bar, but it closes immediately before anything can get a chance to load. I've tried reinstalling it to the same problem. Now whenever I open Word, I get a constant access violation error.

Access violation at address 02D4D097 in module 'Outliner4Word.dll'. Read of address 00000000.

And whenever I try to send the error report, I get:

No profiles have been created. To create a new profile, use the Mail icon in the Control Panel.

So I created a profile and sending the error and it's done nothing. I've tried restarting the application. I've tried restarting the computer. I've tried opening up documents through My Computer, and they will open but the error will still occur. Word is unusable because this error won't go away and it now has me thoroughly frustrated. I want it removed. I am using Word 2003.

No where on the Download page does it say it's in Beta testing, and I think this is something people need to be made aware of.

Edwin,
Thank you! This is great and promising news. In fact, it's the first such promising news for any similar software that would finally let me work on my entire novel on my tablet. I'm looking forward to the new release.

Thanks,
Kseniya

Hi grahamrhind,

Please try the following to avoid such problems:

Don't close Word window by right clicking on the Windows taskbar then select Close, but instead, close a project using the Close menu item which can be found when you click on the 'Menu' button on the left pane.

And I believe such errors will most likely be eliminated in the revamped version that's still under working. Thanks for your patience.

Hi,

The more stable version you have just released seems to have a major problem. When I close a project I am working on, WO crashes, and the name of the project I have just worked on disappears from the projects list. To continue I have to close Word and restart it.

No work is lost, but it's a pain in the ****. I've only been getting this with this patched version.

Thanks

Currently, Zotero works perfectly when combining documents into a single one. Edwin, as you develop the new version please see that it continues to work well with Zotero. This, for me, is the big advantage over Scrivener (and it might be also for many other academics frustrated with Scrivener's lack of compatibility with Zotero). Thanks! I'm really liking the program.
